The prosecution was taken by Belfast City Council against the food business operator of Castle Street Discount Stores, 75-77 Castle Street, Belfast, following a routine hygiene inspection of the premises on 16 February 2024.

During inspections, Environmental Health Officers found Castle Street Discount Stores was not kept clean and maintained to an acceptable standard, and there was an active rat infestation.
