Waffle Boys Liverpool Ltd, trading as Keeno’s Desserts & Coffee on Warrington Road, admitted that it breached The Food Safety Act 1990 and The Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 following a test purchase by Trading Standards Officers from Knowsley Council.

During this test purchase, a Nutella Waffle was requested to contain no soya. Subsequent analysis confirmed that soya protein was detected in the sample.

This followed a previous visit to the business where advice was provided regarding the legal requirements on the provision of allergen information.

After pleading guilty at Liverpool Magistrates Court, the business was ordered to pay a total of £4,950 in fines and costs, while the owner was personally fined a total of £746.
