You will make a difference as an Environmental Health Service Officer in the Food, Health & Safety Team by delivering services aimed at protecting residents, businesses and communities by providing food safety, food standards and health and safety expert advice.
What you will be doing
Areas that you will cover include inspections, food hygiene and food standards, service requests, infectious diseases, sampling, complaints and investigation of illnesses and health caused by work.
You will deliver a risk-based service involving both preventive and reactive measures to include inspection, interventions, campaigns and programmes.
Following investigations, you will take appropriate action in response to breaches of statutory requirements and provision to address statutory needs, in order to protect health and the environment.
It will be your responsibility to prepare and respond, as required, to major incidents or other emergencies requiring the mobilisation or response of environmental services staff.
You will ensure that set targets are achieved and corporate and departmental policies are implemented, particularly the council’s guiding principles.
Working with internal and external contacts, customers and colleagues, you will explain technical policies and standards and the need for compliance with them and also offer an education and support service.
