Technical Officer – Commercial Team (Environmental Health)

Based in Hertford with the option for home working up to 50% of working hours after completion of probationary period.

We are looking for someone like you to join our team! If we are a good fit for you, you will have the opportunity to work within a supportive team on a wide range of cases

What will you be doing?

  • Deliver a wide range of regulatory and advisory activities covering food safety, occupational health and safety, infectious disease control, skin piercing registration, Private water supply and Animal licensing.
  • Responding to service requests and giving appropriate advice.
  • Carrying out a range of inspections, investigations, and sampling
  • Taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary.

About you

As an ideal candidate, you will have:

  • A relevant qualification or experience and a working knowledge of the legislation and regulations
  • The ability to deal with challenging situations using tact and discretion.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work without supervision, prioritise work to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written skills, with the ability to write schedules of work, summarise accurately and convey complex information.
  • For the Food TO post you must hold a suitable Food Law Code of Practice qualification, at Level 5 or above, including but not limited to the Higher Certificate in Food Control, Higher Certificate in Premises Inspection, or a degree in an Environmental Health related subject.
  • Applicants for the Food TO post must also be fully registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB), as a Registered EHP (REnvH) or as a Registered Food Practitioner. Ideally you will have post qualification experience in Food safety and occupational health and safety.
  • A working knowledge of Uniform Enterprise database is desirable.
